Cookie Policy
This document provides information regarding the use of cookies and similar technologies, on how they are used within this website, and on how to manage them.
WHAT ARE COOKIES?
Cookies are small text files that are saved in the memory of the electronic device used by the user when visiting a specific website. Essentially, cookies allow a website to function efficiently and to improve its performance, enabling the server that installs the above mentioned text files on the user’s device – among other things – to recognize that device on the occasion of possible future accesses.
Based on their characteristics and use, cookies can be divided into several differentcategories:
- Technical cookies: Technical cookies are those that are solely used for the purpose of “carrying out the transmission of a communication over an electronic communications network or to the extent that is strictly necessary for the service provider of an information society to provide a service, that was explicitly requested by the subscriber or user ” (see Art. 122, Para. 1, Legislative Decree No. 196/2003). They are not used for further purposes and they are usually directly installed by the website owner or operator. The installation of such cookies does not require previous user consent, although users must be informed pursuant to Art. 13 of EU Regulation 2016/679, which the website operator, if using only this type of cookie, can provide using the method that shall be deemed as most appropriate. This type of cookies can be in turn further divided into:
- navigation or session cookies, that ensure the normal navigation and use of the website (e.g., by allowing purchases or authentication to access restricted areas);
- analytics cookies, which are treated as equivalent of technical cookies, in case they are directly used by the website operator in order to collect information, in aggregate form, about the number of users and on how they visit the website itself.
- functionality cookies, that allow the user to browse the site according to a set of selected criteria so as to improve the provided service.
- Profiling cookies. These cookies are used in order to create user profiles and to send advertising messages in line with the preferences expressed in the course of online browsing. Due to the particularly invasive nature of these kind of devices on users’ privacy, both European and Italian regulations require that users must be properly informed about their use and that users can this way express their valid consent in this regard. The use of these cookies is addressed by Art. 122 of Legislative Decree No. 196/2003, which provides that “storage of information in the terminal equipment of a contracting party or user or access to information already stored is only permitted on the condition that the contracting party or user has expressed his/her consent after having been informed by using simplified procedures as provided for by Art.13, Para.3” (Art. 122, Para. 1, Legislative Decree No. 196/2003).
- Third-party cookies. These are cookies that are installed on the user’s device by a website other than the one the user is visiting. They reside on servers that are different from the one hosting the visited website. The use of data collected by these external operators via cookies is therefore subject to their respective privacy policies.
Based on their duration, cookies can be divided as follows:
- Session cookies: these cookies remain active only until the browser is closed or till the user possibly logs out.
- Persistent cookies: their duration is set by the server at the time of their creation; in some cases, they have a fixed expiration date, while in other cases, they have an indefinite duration.
